WHAT IS THE GREENE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY
AND WHY WAS IT CREATED?
Pennsylvania’s Constitution severely limits the amount of money that a municipal government can borrow. To overcome this obstacle, the State Legislature enacted the Municipality Authorities Act of 1945, which permits the elected officials to create an Authority which has no legal limitation on the amounts it may borrow. Most of the sewer systems in the State are owned by an Authority. The Authority will own, finance, construct, operate and maintain the system much like a public utility. |
